Primary Uses

This medication is used as an adjunctive therapy (treatment given along with the main treatment) for different types of seizures (sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain which may produce changes in your behavior, movements of consciousness) and in certain types of epilepsy (a brain disorder which causes you to have seizures) in patients inadequately controlled by other medications. It is also used in migraine prophylaxis (to prevent a brain disorder which causes intense headaches). Consult your doctor for further details.

Side Effects

Patients using this medication may at times experience confusion, somnolence (feeling extremely sleepy or drowsy), anxiety , depression ,headache, speech and visual disturbances , finding it difficult to concentrate, mood changes , abnormal behavior , ear pain , dyspnea (difficulty in breathing ), impaired balance and co-ordination ,anemia (less red blood cells in the body),  cough , nephrolithiasis (kidney stones) and ataxia (loss of control of body movements).  This is not a comprehensive list.
