Primary Uses
It is indicated in treatment of infections – especially septic processes (body’s response to an infection caused by bacteria injures tissues and organs) caused by gram positive or gram negative bacteria or their toxins caused with the simultaneous use of antibiotics. It is also used as an immunoglobulin substitute in immunosuppressed patients (patients with suppressed immune systems) and severe secondary antibody deficiency syndrome.
Side Effects
Nausea, diarrhea (watery stools), fever, chills, headache, dizziness, arthralgia (joint pain), myalgia (muscle pain), muscle spasm, lower back pain, allergic reactions, injection site reactions, anaphylactic reactions (serious allergic reactions), thromboembolic (formation of clot in vessels that may plug the other vessels) events are some of its side effects. Hypotension (low blood pressure), aseptic meningitis (something other than bacteria causes inflammation of meninges), acute renal (kidney) failure are some of its rare side effects.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with selective IgA (antibody that plays a role in the immune function of the mucous membrane) deficiencies and anti- IgA antibodies.
