Precautions
Patients that are suffering from swallowing disorders, severe gastro-paresis (stomach cannot empty itself), diverticulosis (presence of multiple pouches in colon that are not inflamed), gastric retention, active inflammatory bowel disease, gastric motility disorders, and have a history of major gastrointestinal surgery should stay cautious. Monitor serum electrolyte levels. Vitamins intake may be required alongside this medicine for long term use.

Primary Uses

This medicine is used in the treatment of hyperphosphatemia (elevated level of phosphate in blood) in hemodialysis (filtration of blood by a machine that acts like an artificial kidney).

Side Effects

Patients administered with this medicine may experience gastrointestinal upset, and very rarely intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation (pierced with a hole), diverticulosis (presence of multiple pouches in colon that are not inflamed), pruritus (urge to scratch), and rash (change in color and texture of skin).
